Murray tries again for new chemistry

OTTAWA — Chemistry is a touchy topic around here, going back to the Ottawa Senators’ appearance in the Stanley Cup final last spring. The Anaheim Ducks had a relatively easy time with the Senators, winning the NHL championship in five games, because they shut down the big line of Jason Spezza and wingers Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson. When the Senators’ other lines failed to take up the scoring slack, they were doomed.
Now, as the playoffs approach again, the problem remains. Specifically, it remains with the Senators’ second line, where chemistry between centre Mike Fisher, right winger Cory Stillman and whoever has been tried on the left side remains elusive.
General manager and head coach Bryan Murray will take another stab at solving this by putting Chris Neil at left wing on that line when he returns tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs from a four-week absence because of a knee injury. The hope is that hard-nosed Neil will create scoring opportunities with his fore-checking and his physical play in front of the net.
