Iowa: IndyCar qualifying rained out, field set by points

Source: Motorsport.com (Original Article)

Rain cancelled qualifying for the Sunday (June 22nd) IndyCar Iowa Corn 225,
mandating the grid be set by championship points for tomorrow’s 12:30 PM CDT
start.

As a result Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and Team Penske’s Helio
Castroneves will lead the twenty-three car field to the green flag at Iowa
Speedway for the second consecutive year.

Row two will be set with Dan Wheldon and Andretti Green Racing’s Tony
Kanaan. Ryan Briscoe starts on the inside of row three alongside Danica
Patrick.

Two IndyCar Series regulars will not make the race after crashing out of
practice today. Marty Roth and Bruno Junqueira elected to cut their losses
after both suffered significant damage to their Dallara/Honda machines and
withdrew from the race.

Junqueira’s incident also involved Wheldon’s primary No. 10 car, forcing
the latter into his backup for tomorrow’s race.

Milka Duno will also take the green flag in her backup car.

Of the day’s surprises was a lightning-quick Hideki Mutoh who posted the
day’s best lap on the 7/8-mile oval in 17.4023 seconds, or 184.941 mph.
Mutoh will start seventh in the race.
