DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (Dole) Regional Director Carlos Boteros said the establishment of the Greater Modular Access (GMA) job center is a big help in curbing out activities of illegal recruitment.

Boteros said through the GMA job center, jobseekers can check and verify the job vacancies of companies nationwide as well as recruitment agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

He said jobseekers could also determine if a particular recruitment agency is authorized to recruit people and that the positions they offer is available.

The Dole regional office opened on Thursday the GMA job center in Zamboanga City in time for the Labor Day celebration. It is located at Southway Mall located downtown.

The GMA job center is a joint project of Dole and Southway Mall. Dole built the center while the shopping mall provided the facilities.

Boteros said the GMA job center is an information portal designed by Dole to provide information on employment and livelihood opportunities to the public for free.

He said jobseekers could register and post their qualifications at the job center as well as companies who need personnel to fill in job vacancies.

They can do job matching through the GMA job center, Boteros added.

Boteros foresees that the job center will help solve and minimize the unemployment problem not only in this city but also in other areas of the country, aside from curbing out illegal recruitment activities. (Bong Garcia)(May 3, 2008 issue)
