Superintendent Mariano Verzosa Jr., Police Regional Office (PRO)-Ilocos Region public information officer, the program for undergraduate policemen was initiated under a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the University Of La Salette, based in Santiago City, Isabela for the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditations Program (Eteeap) which is offered on a trimester basis.

PRO-Ilocos Regional Director Romeo Hilomen also expressed his gratitude to his former classmate, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, who started the program during his stint as regional director there on June 18, 2007.

Hilomen appreciated and congratulated his men who participated in the Eteeap and vowed to continue the successful program.

He said Bataoil encouraged the undergraduate policemen in the Ilocos Region to pursue their baccalaureate courses after providing them a counterpart for their tuition, fares, meals and snacks for every scheduled class.

Bataoil, who is now the chief of the PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations and who was the guest of honor and keynote speaker during Thursday’s graduation rites, congratulated the graduates for successfully completing their college education.

He said it is a fulfillment of his vision to give a chance to undergraduate policemen to obtain college degrees and give them a better chance of promotion.

The graduates are assigned at various police Melbourne bar units within the region.

Unhappy Milacron shareholders seek answers

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Source: Bizjournals.com (Original Article)

Milacron Inc.’s Chairman and CEO Ron Brown told shareholders Thursday morning that the company’s return to profitability depends on continuing the path it’s been on for several years, cutting costs and pursuing growth outside its traditional markets in the United States and Western Europe.

The Cincinnati-based manufacturer of plastic-processing machinery and metalworking fluids held its annual shareholders meeting at its Walnut Hills headquarters. Shareholders elected or re-elected seven directors, six of whom are investment professionals with Miami, Fla.-based H.I.G. Capital, which acquired control of Milacron in 2007. The private equity investment firm owns most of Milacron’s Series B convertible preferred stock, holders of which elect a majority of the board.

With Thursday’s election, the size of the board was reduced from 13 to 11 members. Six-year board member Chuck Turner, a former employee, attended his last annual meeting as a director, and his departure marked the end of 124 years of Geier family representation on the board. Turner is a great-grandson of Milacron founder Fred Geier and a nephew of longtime CEO Jim Geier.

Brown turned 55 Thursday and announced last month that he will retire by the end of the year after 28 years with Milacron. He outlined the company’s improved operating performance in 2007 and the first quarter of this year and said continued improvement would require further actions to lower its costs in North America and increase manufacturing capacity in emerging markets such as China and India.

The company is building a blending plant in China for its profitable metalworking fluids business, he said, but on the other hand it expects the production of plastic parts to decline slightly in the United States this year because of slumps in the housing and automotive sectors.

Asked by a shareholder if he could predict when the company would return to profitability, Brown Accountants in NSW beginning with V said, "I can, but I can’t." …continue reading

Television Journalist and Producer Bill Kurtis Interviews Last …

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Nuremberg prosecutors Ben Ferencz, Henry King and Whitney Harris tell why
Cambodia Tribunal must go forward; tie to Nuremberg precedent
Exclusive video of Nuremberg interviews posted on http://www.CambodiaTribunal.org

CHICAGO, May 5 /PRNewswire/ — The Cambodia Tribunal Monitor Web site
today posted exclusive video interviews by TV journalist, producer and
former CBS news anchor Bill Kurtis with the last three surviving
prosecutors of post-World War II trials held in Nuremberg, Germany about
their perspective on the upcoming Cambodia Tribunal. Senior officials of
the Khmer Rouge regime are expected to be tried over the next several years
for atrocity crimes in Cambodia during their 1975-79 rule. The pre-trial
hearings of some of the regime leaders are currently underway.

Kurtis interviewed prosecutors Ben Ferencz, Henry King and Whitney
Harris, asking them to reflect on the significance of the Nuremberg trials
on international law, what lessons we learned, how far we’ve come and what
advice they have for the Cambodia Tribunal currently underway in Phnom
Penh.

Kurtis, with the consortium responsible for the Cambodia Tribunal
Monitor Web site, posted these exclusive interviews with the surviving
Nuremberg prosecutors on the Web site in an effort to raise awareness about
the need to punish war crimes and crimes against humanity, no matter how
long ago those crimes were committed.

Speaking about the significance of interviewing the Nuremberg
prosecutors, Kurtis said, “These are the voices of history speaking. They
provide an important historical context and precedent from the post-World
War II era that can be applied to today’s tribunal in Cambodia. I thought
it was especially important to draw from their experience and hear their
perspective, as their insights will inform the trials — and procedures of
those trials — for today’s alleged war criminals.”

When Kurtis asked if it is still worth it for Cambodia to have a
tribunal jigsaw after 30 years since the crimes …continue reading

‘GMA job center a big help vs illegal recruitment’

8 injured in LPG tank explosion

Saturday, May 03, 2008

DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (Dole) Regional Director Carlos Boteros said the establishment of the Greater Modular Access (GMA) job center is a big help in curbing out activities of illegal recruitment.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Boteros said through the GMA job center, jobseekers can check and verify the job vacancies of companies nationwide as well as recruitment agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

He said jobseekers could also determine if a particular recruitment agency is authorized to recruit people and that the positions they offer is available.

The Dole regional office opened on Thursday the GMA job center in Zamboanga City in time for the Labor Day celebration. It is located at Southway Mall located downtown.

The GMA job center is a joint project of Dole and Southway Mall. Dole built the center while the shopping mall provided the facilities.

Boteros said the GMA job center is an information portal designed by Dole to provide information on employment and livelihood opportunities to the public for free.

He said jobseekers could register and post their qualifications at the job center as well as companies who need personnel to fill in job vacancies.

They can do job matching through the GMA job center, Boteros added.

Boteros foresees that the job center will help solve and minimize the unemployment problem not only in this city but also in other areas of the country, aside from curbing out illegal recruitment activities. (Bong Garcia)(May 3, 2008 issue)
